Can Kissing Transmit Periodontal Disease?
An oral condition such as periodontal disease, involves the breakdown of the structures of the supporting and connective tissues that anchors the teeth to the gums. The development and of progression of periodontal disease is felt and is determined by the response of the body to infection which is caused by dental or bacterial plaque. A person's mouth may be filled by multitudes of bacteria but there are some that are linked to periodontal disease. of which of course are destructive in particular such as Actinobacillus Actinomycetemcomitams and Porphyromonas Gingivalis. These bacteria causing periodontal disease are being investigated whether they can be passed between married couples through kissing, or among members of the family in a way that it can be spread through a flu or cold, passing it from one individual to another. A person with disease in the gums may be the source of bacterial infection of these said bacteria, spreading it to other family members, but it is also important to recognize that other people may not develop periodontal disease even if these bacteria may be present in his or her mouth.
