Irreversible, Severe Gum Disease Calls For Periodontal Surgery
Dental researchers revealed that one out of eleven American has lost all their teeth. Thus, proving that gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults. Plaque is a mixture of bacteria, saliva and food debris that causes gum disease and force gums to detach from the tooth forming pocket. At this time, brushing, flossing and irrigating cannot reach the bacteria at the base of the pocket. The gum disease-causing bacteria can often be out of reach and without symptoms may cause dental pockets to become deeper and continue to destroy the bone which supports the teeth. Severe gum disease calls for periodontal surgery because good oral hygiene cannot anymore reverse the condition.
