Treating Receding Gums with Laser Technology
Gum disease is one of the culprits indicated as being primarily contributory in the development of receding gums. Prevention of gum disease of course has gone a long ways. While in the early 1980s the visit of the school dentist was both feared and appreciated, it provided much needed dental health education to those who knew little about gum disease or a receding gums treatment. Once grown up and seeing the dentist at his office instead, the patient is reminded at each visit to brush, floss and rinse the oral cavity regularly.
Somewhat surprisingly, the ever increasing volume of education with respect to oral hygiene and the emphasis put on preventing gum disease in order to avoid receding gums appears to not have a lot of effect. Instead, even though adults are now flossing, brushing and rinsing more than ever, incidents of gum disease are on the rise! What makes it worse is it now appears the very patient education has been taken out of the dentist’s office. Instead it has been taken over by manufacturers of dental hygiene products containing alcohol which has lately been found to be a contributing factor in the creation of gum disease and subsequently receding gum.
Even more alarming is the notion consumers have taken with respect to regular dental visits. Many believe since they are using all of the oral hygiene products suggested, they are safe from developing gum disease and thus they are protected from receding gums. Until pain is associated with eating and drinking, many will no longer seek out the twice yearly dentist visits. Thus the slowly progressive conditions are developed and continue on until the patient finally makes and keeps that dental appointment. At other times it is the sudden looseness of a tooth that scares a patient to visiting a dentist. Sadly, at this time it is too late for prevention and it is time to seek a cure for receding and bleeding gums treatment.
Treating receding gums with laser technology is a new method devised when patients present with the symptom and tooth loss is a real threat. While prevention is best, a cure is second best. Although this process is a bit more time consuming, waiting any longer to seek out the help of a dentist for a gingivitis treatment and also a periodontist is counterproductive and will result in almost certain loss of teeth.
When receding gums are treated with a laser the ability to pinpoint areas which require treatment, while leaving unaffected those which still show healthy tissues, is of vital importance. Such precision prevents a recurrence of the gum disease during the healing stage, which is always feared by those undergoing any periodontal disease treatment for their receding gums. Add to this the decreased discomfort that is felt when laser technology is utilized instead of the more commonly suggested oral surgery, and it is no small surprise that if treatment must be sought out, laser technology offers a great solution.
